Here are some considerations when installing your SunGrabber system:

Panel Location:
  • The best location is anywhere that the panel will be in full sun for most of the day.

  • The panel should face south if possible, but west is the next best.

  • Lay it on gravel, landscaping bark or the like, or mount it on a platform, rack or deck. Be careful about laying the panels on the grass as this may damage the lawn.

  • Be certain that the orientation you select is not shaded by trees or other structures. Remember, the effectiveness of a solar system is directly dependent on the amount of direct sunlight that the panels receive.

  • The panel can be located up to 30 feet away from your pool and up to one story high (~8 feet), if your pool pump is at least 1 HP and in good working condition.

Panel Angle:
  • Mounting the panels at a 20o to 45o angle with the ground will help maximize efficiency.

  • If mounting your panel at an angle, make sure the angle is at least 10 degrees as this will help with proper drainage.

Roof or Rack Mounting:
  • Mounting kits should be available at your local retailer or distributor. If not, please Contact Us for mail order information.

  • If mounting your panels at an angle, the inlet should be on the bottom or lower side. The pool water absorbs more heat when it is forced up through the heated panels.

  • For ideas on how to create a rack for mounting solar panels, please see our example rack drawing (20KB .gif).
