Troubleshooting Your SunGrabber Solar Pool Heater

The performance of your SunGrabber Solar Pool Heater will vary based on weather and climatic conditions throughout the year. Here are some helpful hints to insure your system is working properly.

  1. Is your panel in direct sunlight for most of the day? (At least 4-6 hours per day is needed.)
  2. Has your system been up and running for at least 5 days? (It may take up to five days to reach maximum temperature increase.)
  3. If your panel is tilted or mounted at an incline? If so, make sure that the solar panel is angled south or a little west of south. (although less important, be sure the solar panel is inclined at approximately 30º to 45º)
  4. If your panel is mounted at an incline, make sure the inlet is at the bottom and the outlet is at the top of the solar panel.
  5. Is your panel cool to the touch? (This means that your pool water is running through it properly.)
  6. Are there bubbles in the pool during startup? (This is normal since during startup your pool water is purging the air in your solar panel.)
  7. Is there a pressure increase in your pump and filter when your solar is turned on? (There should be some increase in psi.)
  8. Do you turn your solar off at night and back on in the morning? (You should turn your solar off at night so the cool water is not running through the solar panel, which will cool your pool.)
  9. Do you leave the solar off on cloudy and/or windy days? (If there is no sunlight or it is very windy, there is no benefit to running your system.)
  10. Does the flow seem greatly reduced and filter pressure excessive? (Check that the vinyl caps were removed from the inlet and outlet prior to installation and be sure the inlet and outlet have not been reversed.)

The climatic conditions in your area may affect your system from heating the water in your pool to the level you desire. As the weather in your area heats up, you can expect to see the temperature of your pool water increase as well.
